J. P. MASCARO & SONS WINS $200 MILLION WASTE TRANSPORTATION AND DISPOSAL CONTRACT

Pursuant to a competitive bidding process, the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (“MCMUA”), at its June 10, 2025, Public Meeting, awarded a five-year Waste Transportation and Disposal Contract, valued in excess of $200 million, to J. P. Mascaro & Sons, a local privately-owned waste service company headquartered in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.  Mascaro beat out industry giant Waste Management, Inc. for this contract award.

All Morris County, New Jersey, waste is delivered by haulers to either the MCMUA Mount Olive Township Transfer Station or the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Transfer Station.  For the next five years, starting in January 2026, Mascaro will be responsible for transporting and disposing of approximately 500,000 tons per year of Morris County waste delivered to those transfer stations.

Using a modern fleet of more than 40 new and late-model trucks and 120 transport trailers, Mascaro’s experienced CDL drivers will transport Morris County Waste to the Keystone Landfill in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, for disposal, with the Commonwealth Environmental Systems Landfill in Hegins, Pennsylvania, serving as the backup disposal facility.

Keystone, the primary disposal facility for Morris County waste, is a “Best Practice” DEP-permitted sanitary landfill, with comprehensive environmental protection systems, and was the first Pennsylvania landfill to receive the “valued”  ISO 14001 Certification, which demonstrates an organization’s recognized commitment to excellent environmental management.  As part of its excellent facility management, Keystone operates a sophisticated landfill gas-to-energy plant, which is one of the best in the country and which converts large volumes of landfill gas into pipeline-quality gas for off-site use by third parties.  That beneficial use of renewable energy plants uses landfill gas to provide cost-efficient energy for nearby residents and businesses.

Speaking to the contract award, Mascaro company President, Pat Mascaro, said, “Our company greatly appreciates the opportunity to serve Morris County and its residents for the next five years.  The fact that we were successful in this very large contract award is a tribute to our dedicated management team, our hardworking employees, and the company’s excellent operating infrastructure.”

J. P. Mascaro & Sons is one of the largest family-owned and operated waste service companies in the country.  Founded by Joseph P. Mascaro, Sr., in 1964, the company has operated and grown through the efforts of his five sons, and today a third generation of Mascaro family members are well-positioned in the company and ready to guide it for years to come.

Mascaro collects, recycles, transfers, transports, composts, and disposes of solid waste in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with an emphasis in Southeastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania; it has 17 operating divisions; it owns and operates DEP-permitted landfills, transfer stations, compost facilities, and recycling centers; and with more than 500 waste collection/transportation vehicles, it employs more than 1,000 people.  The company’s well-established commitment to service is evidenced by the motto of its corporate founder, Joseph P. Mascaro, Sr. – “It It’s Service, It’s Us.”
