Local waste collection company J. P. Mascaro & Sons was recently awarded a $700,000 contract for accepting, processing and marketing of recyclable materials from Palmer Township, Northampton County. The contract will take effect on May 1, 2021, and Palmer Township will deliver its residential single stream recyclables to Mascaro’s Lehigh Valley Recycling transfer station located in Coplay, Pennsylvania for ultimate disposal at Mascaro’s TotalRecycle, Inc. located in Birdsboro.
TotalRecycle is a state-of-the-art single stream MRF facility which began operations in 2016. As part of the contract, Mascaro has expanded its recycling services to include the acceptance of flexible plastic packaging. These items include the following: Pet Treat Pouches, Detergent Pouches, Case Wrap, Shrink Film, Grocery Bags, Retail Bags, Storage Bags, Small Jerky Pouches, Salad bags, Wipes Pouches, Candy Pouches, Baby Food Pouches, Bread Bags, Diaper Bags, Air Pillows, Bubble wrap, Dog Food Bags, Cereal Bags, Paper towel overwrap, Large Chip Bags, Small Chip bags, Meat Bags and Large Jerky Pouches.
Sam Augustine, Sales Manager for J.P. Mascaro said, “What we are trying to do is get all of the packaging material that currently goes in the landfill, get it into our building, accumulate it, and find a new market that we can put it back to use, give it a second life”.
