The J. P. Mascaro & Sons company related Pioneer Crossing Landfill in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, is continuing with its ongoing facility upgrade program. The facility is a “best practice” landfill, employing the latest operating practices to ensure the company's primary objective of total compliance.
The company employs the “Plan-Do-Check-Act” concept of quality management. Pioneer Crossing has been successful in this regard over the past 25 years. Emphasis is on applications related to noise, odor, dust, and litter, with rigid daily checks and balances being employed by company environmental technicians. Pioneer Crossing is in the process of converting its landfill electrical generation plant to a natural gas plant in partnership with British Petroleum. Recently, the company has also completed the construction of a new 1.7 million gallon leachate control structure to enhance its leachate management system, as well as the construction of a new one-mile entrance road to facilitate more efficient ingress and egress to the landfill.
