Local solid waste removal company, J. P. Mascaro & Sons, was awarded a 10-year sludge hauling contract by the Pottstown Borough Authority at its meeting on December 19, 2023. The contract will be serviced by Mascaro’s Berks County Division and Mascaro will be responsible for the transportation and disposal of all biosolids generated by the wastewater treatment plant owned by the Pottstown Borough Authority.
Mascaro will perform its transportation services in conjunction with a long-term, 30-year Sludge Disposal and Leachate Acceptance Agreement between Pottstown Borough Authority and Mascaro that was entered into on July 18, 2023. Under that Agreement, which is favorable to both parties, Mascaro, at its Pioneer Crossing Landfill, will dispose of sludge from the Authority’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Authority, at its modern plant, will accept and treat leachate from the Pioneer Crossing Landfill. Speaking to both contracts, Mascaro company President, Pat Mascaro, said, “Our company has had a long affiliation with Pottstown, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Borough and the Authority for years to come. We are pleased that Mascaro and the Authority will be providing each other with important and needed reciprocal services in the long-term.”
