CELEBRATING 10 YEARS AT TOTAL RECYCLE
This year marks a major milestone for TotalRecycle: 10 years of innovation, growth, and service to our communities. When TotalRecycle opened its doors in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, in 2016, it represented a bold step forward for J.P. Mascaro & Sons. The 75,000-square-foot single-stream recycling facility was built with one goal in mind: creating a more efficient and sustainable future for recycling. What started as a one-shift operation with a single crew has grown into one of the nation's most innovative Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), recognized for both its technology and commitment to excellence.

10 Years by the Numbers
1.2 Million+ Tons of recyclables received and processed
1.1 Million+ Tons of recycled commodities shipped to domestic and international markets across the globe
15+ Dedicated Mill Buyers and Brokers purchasing commodities from our facility
100,000+ Square Feet of advanced recycling operations
3 Shifts working together to keep materials moving and communities served
Top 50 MRF in the United States recognized by Recycling Today Magazine in 2025

Building a Strong Foundation
From day one, TotalRecycle was designed around innovation. Equipped with state-of-the-art Bollegraaf Technology from Van Dyk Recycling Solutions, the facility quickly established itself as a leader in single-stream recycling. Under the leadership of Joseph Mascaro at launch, TotalRecycle developed a strong presence in the recycling marketplace. What began with just 2 dedicated buyers has grown into a diverse network of more than 15 mill buyers and brokers, helping maximize the value of recovered materials and expand market opportunities.

Leading Through Innovation
Innovation continues to drive everything we do. Through partnerships with organizations such as The Recycling Partnership, MAREA, and the Recycling Consortium, TotalRecycle has invested in advanced sorting technologies, optical and TOMRA AS4 auto sort systems that improve material recovery and efficiency. One of our proudest accomplishments is our RFlex recycling program. TotalRecycle remains the only single-stream MRF in the United States capable of automatically identifying, sorting, and baling RFlex flexible packaging through its
processing system. While many facilities rely on manual separation, our technology allows these materials to be recovered directly within the recycling stream.

Over the years, we have continued investing in our operations through major upgrades, including:
• RFlex Sort Station and RFlex Air Transport System additions
• Addition of Fire Rover System as Drastic Facility Safety Improvement
• Enhanced air-booster technology throughout the MRF
• Complete replacement of our American Baler system
• Complete replacement & revamp of Drum Feeder
• A 20,000-square-foot facility compactor area expansion and improved traffic flow
• Addition of Mascaro's first Moffett truck to the Fleet
• Creation of a dedicated parts inventory and management center in the PDO
• Clean Out & Expansion of Auxiliary Lot for Container Storage
• Addition of both Electric & Propane Forklifts
• Two Hitachi 370 Front End Wheel Loaders

The People Behind the Success
While equipment and technology are important, the true success of TotalRecycle comes from its people. Many employees have been part of the journey for most, or nearly all, of the past decade. From Kevin Kern managing the tipping floor since opening day, to Chris Rhodes, Scott Yost, Steven Sensenig, Sophia Hickman, Jennifer Withers, Scotty Miller, Dale Wenzel, and countless others who help keep the facility operating every day, the dedication of our employees has been the foundation of our success. A special recognition goes to Operations Manager Steven Sensenig, who started as a sorter on the conveyor line in 2018 and worked his way through the ranks to become a leader within the facility; an example of the opportunities and growth that define the TotalRecycle team.

Growing Together
In August 2019, Jeff Furmanchin became General
Manager  and helped guide TotalRecycle through a period of tremendous growth and operational advancement. With over 35 years of experience in manufacturing and recycling, Jeff's leadership has helped streamline production, expand operations, and position TotalRecycle for continued success in a constantly evolving industry.

Making an Impact Beyond Our Walls
Community involvement remains at the heart of our mission. Throughout the years, TotalRecycle has partnered with schools, municipalities, boroughs, and community organizations to promote environmental education and sustainability. From facility tours and educational programs to Earth Day celebrations and community events, we remain committed to helping future generations understand the importance of recycling and environmental stewardship.

Recognition and Achievement
Our commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2017, TotalRecycle was featured as MRF of the Month by Resource Recycling. In 2025, Recycling Today Magazine recognized TotalRecycle as one of the Top 50 MRFs in the United States. These honors reflect the hard work, innovation, and dedication of every employee who has contributed to our success over the past decade.

Looking Ahead
As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we are proud of how far we have come; from a one-shift operation to a nationally recognized recycling facility that has processed more than 1.2 million tons of recyclables and shipped over 1.1 million tons of recovered commodities around the world; That has made a green imprint and lasting environmental impact on the globe. Most importantly, we are grateful to the employees, customers, municipalities, partners, and communities who have supported us along the way. The first decade was about building something special. The next decade is about building something even better. Thank you for being part of the TotalRecycle story. Here’s to the next 10 years!
